Bob DeLuca ('66), a 1st Team All-Ivy selection in both '64-'65 and '65-'66 was named to the
Capital District's Inaugural Basketball Hall of Fame Class. He graduated from Schenectady High School (formerly Linton HS) in the Albany region.
While at Cornell, he also received honorable mention on the Converse All-America team in 1966. He was also captain of the 1966 Big Red team that went 15-9 and finished second in the Ivy League for the second consecutive season. He was invited to try out with the Baltimore Bullets of the NBA following his senior season. He is a member of Cornell's Hall of Fame.

This is so well-deserved. Bob DeLuca stepped onto the court against Bradley and Bing, and Pawlak and Neuman, and helped the Red beat all of them. He could create off the dribble as well as anyone in that era.
As an upstate NY guy, he was one of Coach McNeil's earliest recruiting targets. His presence on the early 1960's squads (along with Cram, Munson, Baugh, Szachara, and van Leeuwen) led to the recruitment of subsequent stars, Morris, South, and Esdaile.
I think the record indicates that it is nonsense to think that Cornell lacks a strong basketball tradition. The program is second behind Yale among the non-P schools in all-time Ivy record.
I'll admit that there were a few slack years. But, McNeil's charges never finished under .500, while battling great teams and players from Princeton, Penn, and Columbia, and journeying to Columbus and Lexington among other places. And the 80's saw some solid years under Miller and Dement with a championship.
The last couple years have been a renaissance that should make all Big Red fans proud.
Look how much better everything looks at Barton. We need to play there again. Bartels feels like a grocery store with all that flourescent light.
Wonder if we could have either the Red-and-White game or a Midnight Madness event in Barton this year?
