Harvard Students Hope to Carry Crimson to Victory Over Cornell

Harvard football player and senior, Cheng Ho, is leading a group of Harvard students to help support the Crimson basketball team in its game against Cornell on Friday night. Ho writes on his Facebook page that he wants Harvard students to "intimidate" Cornell with a "white out" of Lavietes Pavillion followed by a "black out" at halftime:
"With Cornell losing to Penn and our weekend sweep over Yale and Brown, we’re now back in the driver’s seat for the Ivy League Title."

"Fade to Black (meaning 'White Out' in the first half and 'Black Out' in the second half. Please wear a black shirt underneath your white one)... The athletic department is going to play Jay Z's 'Run This Town'/ACDC's 'Back in Black' two min before the 2nd half tip-off. When the song starts, we are all going to take off our white shirt and reveal our black shirt underneath it!"

Below, highlights from Harvard's win over Brown last weekend with Tommy Amaker's postgame speech for his team.

Also Ho,

Why will Cornell be intimidated by a couple hundred Harvard fans, they were not intimidated at Kansas

"Guys, don't tell anyone, but they're going to play a song at halftime, and when they do, we will change shirt colors, it will blow their mind!"

Like I said before, they should just call themselves the Yin Yang Gang if this is what they plan to do considering they can go from being the top competitor to Cornell to losing to us by 36.

I don't think that there are words in the English language that would adequately express the level of ridiculousness that this post expresses.

See "Rock Chalk" comment, above...

other than this being the most pathetic attempt at intimidation i've ever heard....harvard also missed the boat with the whole "run this town" thing.
case in point:

OH. MY. GAAAAAAAAAAWD!! I have never heard of someone successfully implementing such an ingenious plan to rattle opposing teams as this phenomenal scheme devised by this cheerleader/fashion guru Mr. Ho. I mean, lots of places wear the same color shirts, many others go with a "white out" or "black out" theme...but to do them BOTH IN THE SAME GAME?!?!? INSANITY!!!

I've heard legends of other schools trying to attempt this difficult maneuver, but none have succeeded. The most tragic incident occured in 1987 when 132 NC State fans suffered shoulder separations and dislocated elbows while attempting to quickly change from white to black during halftime of a game against Duke. The video of that carnage still gives me chills, and it the reason why to this day I remain in the same shirt for the entire game.

I wish Mr. Ho good luck and Godspeed in his efforts to CHANGE THE COLLEGE BASKETBALL WORLD FOREVER!!! I really hope the Cornell players watch this amazing feat right before the start of the 2nd half and stand in amazement, instead of, oh I don't know, huddling up and listening to Coach D's gameplan or going through a layup line.

Also Ho,

You stole the waving the newspapers during introductions from the Lynah faithful.

Your changing shirts at half time is original but probably one of the dumber ideas. You guys did the I believe I can win chant good but tonight I believe you will lose. I think you guys are a little bit too full of yourselves. Look at us when they play this song we are going to change our shirts.

You a ho

He didn't steal the newspapers from anyone, tons of college basketball fans around the country use them. And I think it's great that this Harvard kid is promoting school spirit in Ivy League basketball. Whether his idea's stupid or not, it's been great to see people really caring about our league, especially students, at every road game we've played this season.

I'm surprised no one's brought this up yet, but generally speaking:
White shirt over black shirt = grey shirt, unless you've got a high-quality white tee.

It is the Ivy League, but these are still college students. Wouldn't be too surprised if they all just look kind of dingy in the first half.

Also, newspaper-waving during introductions, I beleive, was part of the "Beware the Phog" atmosphere that started in the Phog Allen Fieldhouse at KU in the 1970s. But I could be wrong.
