News and Notes: Friday Edition

  • WBIR NBC reports that incoming Cornell recruit, Dwight Tarwater will be honored by the Greater Knoxville (TN) Hall of Fame on August 5. Tarwater was the Tennessee Mr. Basketball in 2010 in Division II while at the Webb School in Knoxville. He was also All-State and the Regional MVP.
  • This weekend, former Cornell head coach Steve Donahue will be honored with a send off party at the Ithaca Country Club. Several former Cornell coaches that worked on Donahue's staff are expected to attend.
  • Cornell's appearance in the 2010 NCAA Tournament Sweet Sixteen is referenced in an Associated Press article about the aspirations of mid-major college basketball programs.
  • Former Cornell assistant coach, Benjy Taylor, will will be hired as an assistant at the University of Hawaii according to the Honolulu Advertiser. Taylor was fired from his job as head coach of Chicago State.
  • With the announcement of the Boston College-Indiana ACC-Big Ten Challenge game, Indiana's Tom Crean told the media, "I have a lot of respect for their new coach Steve Donahue, who brought his Cornell team to Assembly Hall two years ago. It will be an exciting matchup for the players and fans."
