News and Notes: Monday Edition

Below, some news and notes for Monday...
  • Cornell Athletics has now announced two of the three assistant coaches serving under Bill Courtney, Cornell's Robert E. Gallagher '44 Head Coach of Cornell Men's Basketball. Neither of the names should be surprises to our readers as we revealed their identities during April. Courtney has one more assistant coaching position to fill, the third assistant role.
  • With SlopeTV's publication of the Louis Dale and Jeff Foote highlight videos, stay tuned for the last video, the career highlights of Ryan Wittman. The Wittman video will be produced by Sam Aleinikoff. With another year of eligibility, both Aleinikoff and Jake Mastbaum will be back in 2010-2011 for another season of covering Big Red basketball with SlopeSports.
  • Jeff Goodman of reports that Centenary guard, Daman Starring has opted to transfer to Cal-Irvine over an offer from Steve Donahue's Boston College program. Starring played one season with Cornell's Anthony Gatlin before Gatlin transferred to join the Big Red. Other Centenary players who have left in the last two years have transferred to schools such as Pitt, Middle Tennessee State, Tennessee Tech and South Alabama. Centenary has just one season left of Division I membership before the school transitions to Division III due to budget cuts.

Glad Aleinikoff and Mastbaum still have "eligibility" for covering Cornell sports. If one of them drops a boom mic on their foot, could the petition the NCAA for a medical redshirt and come back to cover the 2011-2012 team?

hopefully they are training the next generation of Cornell basketball specialists. I would hate to see the quality coverage disappear when they graduate.
