News and Notes: Draft Night

Below, some afternoon quick hitters as Draft Night approaches...
  • Steve Vesey of WETM (NBC News Elmira) writes, "It seemed like a little bit of a head-scratcher when I first heart about it, but SVE-grad & former Cornell star Jeff Foote really is making the right move by signing to play basketball overseas. Odds of Foote getting drafted Thursday weren't great. He almost certainly would have gotten picked up for an NBA summer-league team, & most likely would have started his pro basketball career in the D-League. Here's the thing, though. While Foote has done a great job of adding weight to his frame over the last four years or so, he still has some work to do in that area. He's a great passer, shot-blocker, and defensive player. He can finish at the rim and has a decent variety of post moves. Still, you need to be able to bang with the big boys in the NBA. While the European game is much different in that respect, he'll have a chance to develop at the pro level, while making what is almost certainly much more than he would in the D-League. Give him time. If he really is going to be an NBA player at some point, he would have had to earn it anyway. Cornell isn't exactly full of NBA success stories, historically. This could be one, though. All you have to do is wait for it to happen."
