News and Notes: Friday Edition

Below, some news and notes for Friday...
  • Over the course of the next few weeks, we will be posting sample pages from Cornell's commemorative book, Blueprint for Success.
  • Jason Hartford ('08) was named to the International Basketball League's All-Star Team as released by the league office on August 10. Hartford played with the Yamhill Flyers for the second consecutive summer in the IBL after spending this past winter season playing in Portugal. The IBL release notes, "6' 9' Jason Hartford- versatile player, 6'9', can play inside or outside; led Cornell to NCAA tourney, has developed into being a two guard which makes him an NBA prospect at 6' 9'. Hartford averaged 23.9 points, 10.1 rebounds and 2.4 assists per game in 12 games for the Highflyers."
  • Speaking of alums, the following Cornellians have pro contracts:

-Ryan Wittman ('10)-TBA (NBA summer league with NY Knicks/Boston Celtics)
-Jeff Foote ('10)-Maccabi Tel Aviv, Israel, Israel Basketball Super League
-Louis Dale ('10)-BG Göttingen, Germany, Budesliga
-Jason Hartford ('08)-Casino Figueira Ginasio, Portugal, Liga Portugal Basketball
-Cody Toppert ('05)-Plymouth Raiders, U.K., British Basketball League
-Jeff Aubry ('99)-Aericibo Capitanes, Puerto Rico, Puerto Rico Basketball League
-John McCord ('97)-Limoges, France, French Pro B League

Below, a buzzer beater by No. 15 John McCord '97 with Limoges in the French Pro B. McCord, a former junior college transfer to Cornell from Monroe College and a 1996-1997 First Team All Ivy selection, has been a perennial All-Star in France's pro-leagues. He earned honorable mention All Pro B for the 2009-2010 season.



  • The Richmond Times Dispatch notes, "The Virginia Commonwealth University basketball team could meet seven or more teams that played in the postseason last year during the nonconference portion of its 2010-11 schedule. The Rams will play NCAA qualifiers Winthrop, Wofford and archrival Richmond and could play Wake Forest and Cornell -- and others -- in tournaments."
  • Incoming Cornell freshman forward, Dwight Tarwater, tweets, "leaving for [I]thaca a week from today.. hard to believe i'm already taking the next step!"

Why is Wittman on that list if he doesn't currently have a pro contract?

McCord is going to be playing in the A league in France again, either with Limoges (who advances from B to A this season) or with another team.

you could also add alex compton (if you are including coaching), as he has transitioned from player to assistant coach in the philippines' pro league.
