Big Red Style

Continuing our theme of posts on Cornell Basketball's history, above we post a collage of Big Red jerseys worn by Cornell teams from the 1940s through the present. We note that between the 1940s and late 1970s, Cornell's jerseys underwent very little change in design. By the 1980s, however, the uniforms began to change dramatically, especially with the hiring of each new coaching staff. We counted no fewer than four different jersey designs during the Steve Donahue era alone between 2000-2010.

Unfortunately for fans, to this date, we have yet to see Cornell basketball jerseys sold in the Cornell Store despite the fact that Cornell hockey, lacrosse and football jerseys have sold there in the past.

Speaking of the Cornell Store, the Blueprint for Success basketball book is now available there and online as of 9/9

It's pretty ridiculous that Cornell bball jerseys aren't for sale. Have we not established ourselves as the premier basketball team in the Ivy League? I want some nice Cornell basketball gear but not the junk designed by the Cornell Store.

I went to the Princeton game last year and they sell replica Princeton Nike jerseys at their games.

I don't understand what more Cornell has to do to get more respect. We've gone to the Tournament in the same baggy jerseys for the last 3 years. Doesn't Nike want all their schools to look fresh on national tv? Does Nike realize that we are by far the largest Ivy school and that with our larger alumni base, we can spend more on apparel than any other school?

Either one of two things is happening: 1) Nike is holding out on us and doesn't deem us important enough to update our jerseys. 2) Our athletic department is too cheap to spend on new jerseys (as evidenced by giving Wittman and Dale's numbers to freshmen this year)

And by the way, if we were to get a refresh, I think the new jerseys should incorporate the font of the top two jerseys on the left in the montage... nice, clean, and bold. Put those letters on the new System of Dress jerseys and Cornell would look so fly. It would make more sense for us to have the slimmer SOD jerseys than the baggy ones considering how lean most of our players are.

Who cares about what the jerseys look like, they are just jerseys. And what are you talking about earning respect, all those players are gone, our entire team is unproven.
