News and Notes: Early Evening Edition

Below, some early evening news and notes...
  • In reporting for Slam Magazine on Tennessee's regulatory violations in men's basketball, Jon Jaques ('10) writes, "I will forever believe that the Vols' win [over Kansas last season was] due in part to our Cornell team nearly pulling off the upset in the Phog days earlier and revealing the formula to beating the Jayhawks."
  • Speaking of Tennessee, Cornell freshman, Dwight Tarwater is a native of Knoxville (the Webb School) and has strong ties to the University of Tennessee. His father is an alum, while his uncle, Richmond, ran track and played football at Tennessee before embarking on an NFL career with the New York Giants and Dallas Cowboys, while his uncle, Jeff, also played football and track at Tennessee. His cousins, Bill and Richmond, also played college football and signed NFL free agent contracts.
  • Staying with the NFL theme, Cornell freeshman, Dominick Scelfo's father played football at Tulane while his uncle, Chris Scelfo, is the tight ends coach for the Atlanta Falcons.
