Sweet Sixteen Banner to Raise Wednesday Before Delaware Game

After a change in plans, Cornell Athletics confirmed with The Cornell Basketball Blog that Cornell will indeed raise the 2010 Ivy Championship and Sweet Sixteen banners on Wednesday, November 17, 2010 before tip-off of the Delaware game.

Below, photos from the 2008 and 2009 banner ceremonies.

i will never forget the ceremony in 2008 before the south dakota game. The starting lineups were being introduced (remember Lou was out with an injury and J Battle was starting in his place), and of course, the bandwagon fans went 'Loooooooooo' when Battle's name was called.

I don't think they were saying "Louuuuuuuu." I think they were saying, "Whooooooooo??????"

With Louuuuu and Foote! Foote! Foote! gone we got to come up with some new chants

That South Dakota game was Wrobo's first, IIRC.

The crowd chanted "Freshman, freshman!" every time he touched the ball.

We also only scored 79 points on an 80 point wing night. That was disappointing!

Why do they keep moving the ceremony around, made more sense on Friday?

The event was originally tentatively scheduled for the season opener.

Sometime thereafter, they moved the date to Friday in order to get the alums back on campus to see it (i.e. Wittman, Dale, Foote etc).

But with so many of them unable to attend, it made very little sense to push the date to Friday. It made more sense to make it the home opener so the students can get their Newman Nation jerseys and celebrate the banners all in one night.

Wrobo also airballed his first shot in a Cornell uniform (it was a 3 from the corner).

Are any of the alums going to be there, I saw Reeves at the Red White game?

also, Friday would interfere with hockey. This way you get max attendance for the banner raising.
