Cornell-Bucknell in 1960

In the 110 years of the Cornell-Bucknell series, Cornell leads 23-22 after the Big Red won last year’s contest in double overtime, 104-98 in Lewisberg. The teams meet again in Ithaca on December 20. We previously posted Dates in Cornell Basketball History in connection with Cornell's meetings with Bucknell in 1900, 1919, 1952 and the early 1990s. Above, the December 8, 1960 front page of the Cornell Daily Sun recaps the Big Red's thrilling 52-50 win over the Bison in Barton Hall on December 7. The Big Red were booed off the floor at halftime by the hometown Ithaca crowd after Cornell trailed 30-14. A thrilling 14 point second half performance by John Petry led Cornell to the comeback. Petry ('61) would finish the season as a Second Team All Ivy selection.
