News and Notes: Friday Edition

Below, some news and notes for Friday. Above, Cornell's fan base, The Newman Nation.

  • Cornell assistant coach Mike Blaine tweets on Thursday night, "Just wrapped up a long day of recruiting. 9 hours and counting in the car. Watched 2 practices, 1 game, and a lot of basketball!" He added, "I set foot in 2 of the 3 gyms that I played Holiday tournaments in during my high school career. That seems like a long time ago!"
  • Besides lighting up Cornell for 19 points and 10 rebounds on November 19, St. Bonaventure's Andrew Nicholson, a legitimate NBA prospect, is continuing to make national headlines for himself this season with his hitting several game winning shots. Cornell fell to St. Bonaventure, 56-54. Including the St. Bonaventure game, Cornell has lost 4 of its last 5 games each by fewer than 5 points.
  • Below, a look back at the schedules and results for Cornell's Ivy League championship seasons during '07-'08, '08-'09, and '09-'10.

Final ESPN/USA Today Coaches' Top 25 Poll

  • Cornell RPI Watch: The RPI (Rating Percentage Index) is a measure of strength of schedule and how a team does against that schedule. It does not consider the margin of victory, but only whether or not a team won and where the game was played (home/away/neutral court). The formula is 25% team winning percentage (WP), 50% opponents' average winning percentage (OWP), and 25% opponents' opponents' average winning percentage (OOWP). (See: CollegeRPI.com for a further explanation of the formula.) The RPI may be the most influential factor in NCAA Tournament seeding. Cornell's RPI rank as of December 10 is No. 160 out of 347 total Division I teams. While neither the Ken Pomeroy or Jeff Sagarin rankings are used by the NCAA Tournament Selection Committee, the KenPom.com site ranks Cornell No. 182 in the nation, while the USA Today Sagarin rankings have Cornell at No. 161. Both sites are predominantly used by fans and the media.

Love the two jerseys on the left in the second row. Wouldn't look bad to use that script on our next uni's.

Oregon's athletic program may or may not be "well financed" as you describe it, but I would assume that the Ducks gets all their uniforms from Nike for free, or nearly so. There must be a connection between the fact that the football team seemingly has a new uniform for every game and that Phil Knight is standing on the sideline behind the team bench.
