The '85-'86 Photo Finish Season, Brown and Cornell

On Saturday Cornell visits Providence, Rhode Island for its first meeting with the Brown Bears of the 2010-2011 season. While Cornell has a longstanding rivalry in basketball with the original Ivy League members such as Yale, where the Bulldogs and Big Red have met on the hardwood for more than 100 years, Brown and Cornell have a relatively young shared history together. Their first basketball meeting did not take place until January 2, 1950 as Brown was the last school to affiliate with the Ivy League.

The most exciting year in the Cornell-Brown series may have been the 1985-1986 season where Brown captured the Ivy League championship with a 10-4 conference record, clinching the title on the final Saturday of the season, March 1, 1986. Cornell finished in 2nd place with a 9-5 record. Above, a UPI article recaps the Ivy's action on the final Saturday night of the '85-'86 Ivy League season. A Brown win coupled with a Cornell defeat sent the Big Red packing for the offseason.
