Below, some news and notes for the early evening...
- Errick Peck is quietly putting together an All Ivy League resume this season. In Ivy League games, Peck is averaging 14.8 points (8th in the league), 5.5 rebounds (12th in the league), 1.8 steals (5th in the league), and 1.8 blocks per game (4th in the league). Most impressive, he is also shooting an outstanding 48% from the floor from the wing position. Peck has scored in double figures in each of his 4 Ivy games and has reached the mark in 11 of the team's last 12 games. He has also collected at least 6 rebounds in 4 of the team's last 6 games. Just how far has Errick Peck come this season? In the team's first 4 games of the year, Peck scored all of just 23 points and grabbed only 7 total rebounds. He nearly eclipsed those totals in last Friday's game against Dartmouth alone, notching 20 points and 6 rebounds in the defeat.
- Here is what Brandeis head coach, Brian Meehan had to say to Boston's WEII about Harvard's controversial lowering of academic standards for its basketball recruits, "So, when you say they’ve relaxed the standards... I always thought Yale was the one planting that, bitching about it."
- The Daily Pennsylvanian's Calder Silcox writes, "It's February, and we all know what that means: 28 nights of binge drinking for the Penn senior class! As seniors have special events each night for the tradition of Feb Club, Penn Athletics is getting in on the act, making the Penn-Cornell basketball game on the 26th an official event. But was this the right choice? There are probably a ton of scheduling issues with putting together the month-long party, and choosing the Cornell game means the seniors will most likely get to see a win, but if there was one game where I'm sure the Quakers could use some boisterous, seniorly support, it will be this Saturday, when Ivy League-leading Harvard comes to the Palestra."
