News and Notes: Tuesday Edition

Above and below, images from the official game program of the 2009-2010 Madison Square Garden Holiday Festival at which Cornell took the championship with wins over Davidson and St. John's. Jeff Foote ('10) was named Tournament MVP with Ryan Wittman ('10) also named to the All Tournament team. Earlier in the season, Cornell swept through the Legends Classic an undefeated 4-0, knocking off UMass, Toledo, Vermont and Drexel with Wittman and Jon Jaques ('10) named to the All Tournament team.   • NJHoops.com reports that Montez Blair, a 6'3" wing forward out of Timber Creek, NJ is headed to Cornell to compete as a triple jumper on the track & field team. Blair received some recruitment attention from Cornell's basketball program while he was in high school. Ultimately, he attended Navy as a freshman and played on the Midshipmen basketball team. During 2009-2010, Blair appeared in 11 games for the Midshipmen, transferring midseason when he was dissatisfied with life at the Academy. He averaged 5.2 minutes per game with a 2.4 points per game average at Navy, shooting, 35% from the floor and 32% beyond the arc. As a sophomore, he played half a season during 2010-2011 with Iowa Western, a junior college. He averaged 13.8 points and 4.4 rebounds per game for one of the better junior college programs in the country and earned scholarship offers as a transfer for basketball from IPFW, Southern Utah, Eastern Illinois and Dartmouth per Juco Junction, but opted to compete in track at Cornell. A nice pick up for Coach Taylor and the men's track team. 7-0 high jumper & 46' TJ out of HS. Hope he continues the CU dominance in TJ at the national level.
