News and Notes: Tuesday Edition

Below, some news and notes for Tuesday...
  • Dennis P. Doyle, a former Cornell assistant basketball coach and a former assistant coach at St. Joseph High School in Westchester, Illinois passed away. Notably, Doyle played a role in the 1994 critically acclaimed documentary film "Hoop Dreams" and coached Hall of Fame player, Isaiah Thomas at St. Joseph. Doyle was an assistant at Cornell from the 1980-1981 season through 1982-1983 season under Tom Miller.
  • Cody Toppert ('05) bottom row, third from left, sat down for his team photo with his new club, Ourense of Spain. Ourense, a second division Spanish team a year ago, was demoted to the third division, LEB Silver for the 2011-2012 season.
  • On Cornell's 2011-2012 schedule, the Dagger blog of YahooSports previews the Big 10 and a pair of Cornell opponents, Illinois and Penn State. Additionally, several websites have already started with daily countdowns of preseason national rankings. Below are the Cornell opponents ranked thus far:

Moore is now a starting Guard for Turow Zgorzelec. The photo was taken during a last weekend's game of Zastal against Turow in a preseason tournament. Zastal and Turow will play again this Sunday, when a similar three-day tournament is played in Zielona Gora, the home of Zastal.
