DelawareOnline.com Previews Cornell at UD

NEWARK — Delaware expects to be at or near full strength when Cornell visits tonight in the Blue Hens’ men’s basketball home opener, coach Monte Ross said Monday.

Kyle Anderson, who was hobbling on a sore foot after Friday’s 79-69 loss at Villanova, is expected to play in the 7 p.m. Carpenter Center tipoff. Anderson had 12 points in his college debut against Villanova.

Fellow freshman guard Jarvis Threatt, sidelined late in the Villanova game with a deep leg bruise, could be available depending on how he feels today.

Cornell is 2-2, with road losses against St. Bonaventure 79-58 and Buffalo 68-59 and home wins over Binghamton 76-61 and Boston University 71-66. Delaware is 0-2.

“Their 3-point shooting is very good,” Ross said, “and they have a freshman [Shonn Miller] who’s a face-up four-man who’s not so much a 3-point shooter but can go off the bounce and shoot the midrange jumper. They’re good and they have some experience. This will be a true test for our defense.”

Cornell has balanced scoring with 6-foot-2 senior guard Drew Ferry (11.8 ppg), 6-8 junior forward Eitan Chemerinski (11.3) and the 6-7 Miller (11.0), with 6-9 junior forward Josh Figini (8.3) and 6-foot senior point guard Chris Wroblewski (8.3) close.

The leading rebounders are Wroblewski (5.3 rpg) and Miller (5.0).

Last year, Cornell went 10-18 overall, including a 75-61 win over Delaware in Ithaca, and 6-8 in the Ivy League after heavy graduation losses from its 2009-10 team, which went 29-5 and reached the NCAA Tournament’s Sweet 16. Wroblewski was a starter on that team.
