Wire and Osgood Return from Denmark
Several Danish media outlets, including Fullcourt Denmark (see the Google translation), have reported that the stuggling Vaerlose basketball club (6-10 in the Danish BBK) have cut both Adam Wire (Cornell '11) and Aaron Osgood (Cornell '11) from their roster. Wire and Osgood were Vaerlose's best players with Wire averaging 11.3 points, 6.9 rebounds, 2.9 steals and 1.9 assists per game and Osgood posting 11.6 points and 8.4 rebounds per game. Osgood and Wire were first and second on the team in rebounding respectively and third and fourth in scoring respectively.

- After Cornell faces Penn State tonight, on Thursday Cornell recruiting commit Nolan Cressler (Plum HS) Plum, PA, 6-4, G (class of 2012) faces Shaler High School and Penn State commit, Geno Thorpe, a 6'3" guard. The Pittsburgh Post Gazette notes, "Another interesting game Thursday night is Plum at Shaler. It is non-section, but two of the WPIAL's best guards go head-to-head in Plum's Nolan Cressler and Shaler's Geno Thorpe."
- Watch committed Cornell recruit, Tim Higgins (Paul VI HS) Fairfax, VA, 6-10, C (class of 2013), via online video in the Chick-Fil-A Classic in South Carolina. Higgins and Paul VI High School take on Word of God Academy at 3:55 pm.

The Cornell-Penn State Series History
Cornell owns a 5-4 lead in a series against Penn State dating back to February 16, 1900 when the teams first met in State College, Pa., just Cornell's second season of program existence. PSU won the first meeting between the programs 18-5 as the February 23, 1900 issue of the Cornell Daily Sun recaps the game further below. The Cornell Daily Sun also accuses the Penn State spectators of interfering in the outcome. The teams also met in 1910, 1923, 1941, 1970, 1971, 1972, and 2005. In the December 5, 1972, meeting, Cornell defeated Penn State in Ithaca, 74-65. Below, some items from the Big Red-Nittany Lions series.

Tonight's game at the University of Illinois is a tribute return home game for Cornell senior, Chris Wroblewski (Highland Park, IL). Cornell and Illinois do have some history, facing each other in 1932, 1939, 1948 and 1961. The last game was certainly the most memorable for Cornell. During the 1961-1962 season, the Big Red knocked off the lllini, 72-60 on December 23, 1961 in Champaign. Above, the win made headlines in the national wire services. PRINCETON, N.J. -- Holiday hoops continues for Ivy League men’s basketball this week with nine games on the Christmas week schedule.
Six Ivy teams are in action with Dartmouth embarking on a three-game, five-day road trip through the Empire State. Cornell has back-to-back games against Big Ten Conference foes, playing at Illinois Monday night and at Penn State Wednesday night. Brown, Harvard and Penn each return to the hardwood at home later this week after taking their respective exam breaks. Princeton looks to move above .500 for the first time this season in its final pre-Christmas game at Siena on Thursday.

Cornell freshman forward Galal Cancer (Albany, N.Y.) put together quite a stat line in the Big Red’s 85-82 overtime victory over Albany. The freshman, playing against his hometown school, posted 11 points, seven assists, five rebounds, four steals and a blocked shot in 30 minutes off the bench for Cornell. Cancer closed strong with four points, two rebounds, two assists and a block in the final four minutes of regulation as Cornell erased a 10-point, second-half deficit. The seven assists and four steals were both career highs.

Cancer shares the award with Dartmouth's John Golden.
