News and Notes: Friday Edition

Below, some news and notes for Friday...

  • Above, Jeff Foote (Cornell '10) goes head-to-head with Brook Lopez of Stanford (now with the Brooklyn Nets) during the 2008 NCAA Tournament.  Foote and Lopez could be future Nets teammates.  Foote accepted an invitation to play with the Nets' summer league team in Orlando.

Geoff Reeves was a relatively unsung hero on the Sweet Sixteen team! He was a pure shooter, quite accurate from the outside, and even when opponents bottled him up, he stood out for his tenacious defense. He got to start many times in his career, notwithstanding the tremendous talent around him. I remember him battling vigorously in the Sweet Sixteen encounter with Kentucky.

There were a couple of unsung heroes on that team.

Without Mark Coury, Cornell does not go anywhere. The team needed his defense and rebounding when Foote rested.

Also, Jan Jaques stretched defenses for Foote to operate. He was another big time piece on that team.

Geoff was probably the best athlete on the team. Against elite competition he was the one guy who could guard people and get open. I always thought he should have had more impact then he did.
