News and Notes: Tuesday Edition

Below, some news and notes for Tuesday...

  • The Olean Times notes that St. Bonaventure's offense is "clicking" as the team is off to a 4-2 start which included a "close win over Cornell."
  • The Michigan Daily writes, "Though the [Western Michigan] Broncos are 6-1, they’ve scarcely been tested. Cornell took them down in the season opener, and since, Western Michigan has been able to brush by South Florida, High Point and Oakland by single digits."

  • Below, links to our recap sections from each of Cornell's games during the 2012-2013 season.

  • Cornell RPI WatchThe RPI (Rating Percentage Index) is a measure of strength of schedule and how a team does against that schedule. It does not consider the margin of victory, but only whether or        not a team won and where the game was played (home/away/neutral court). The formula is 25% team                  winning percentage (WP), 50% opponents' average winning percentage (OWP), and 25% opponents'              opponents' average winning percentage (OOWP). (See: CollegeRPI.com for a further explanation of the formula.) The RPI may be the most influential factor in NCAA Tournament seeding. Cornell's RPI rank as of December 4 is No. 207 out of 344 total Division I teams. While neither the Ken Pomeroy or the Sagarin Rankings (USA Today) are used by the NCAA Tournament Selection Committee, the KenPom.com site ranks Cornell No. 240 in the nation, while the Sagarin Rankings (USA Today) have Cornell at No. 240 Both sites are predominantly used by fans and the media.

Watching the Harvard-BC game. A couple observations:

Harvard's defense is inconsistent, and at times outright bad. Cornell could give this team some trouble, if we can find a consistent inside scorer. Eiten should have some success. Bunce might be unstoppable against this team based on his size alone, unless he's a total project or his knee problem keeps him out for the year.

Siyani Chambers is better than advertised, and a better pure point than anyone on Cornell's roster.

Rivard hasn't caught fire yet, but he can do some damage from outside and help open things up on offense.

Saunders is their best player. He's pretty good, but not any better than Miller, imo.

There's no question that we can beat any team in the league if we show up to play.

Would really like to c Devin Cherry get more minutes, really believe he could be the key in helping Big Red reach the next level. Looking at the stats after the first 9 games he's leading all guards in points per min and ahead of most in field goal percentage playing what I call broken minutes. Put in for a few minutes then pulled out with a quick hook. Wish we could c how well he could do with some extended minutes.

I love Donahue, but wow did BC look bad in the 2nd half against Harvard. They looked like a low major team rather than an ACC team. Harvard has some good players, but they are small and flawed. BC has some serious work to do, and I hope their poor performances don't cost Coach D his job.
