  • Cornell RPI WatchThe RPI (Rating Percentage Index) is a measure of strength of schedule and how a team does against that schedule. It does not consider the margin of victory, but only whether or not a team won and where the game was played (home/away/neutral court). The formula is 25% team winning percentage (WP), 50% opponents' average winning percentage (OWP), and 25% opponents' opponents' average winning percentage (OOWP). (See: CollegeRPI.com for a further explanation of the formula.) The RPI may be the most influential factor in NCAA Tournament seeding. Cornell's RPI rank as of January 14 is No. 230 out of 344 total Division I teams. While neither the Ken Pomeroy or the Sagarin Rankings (USA Today) are used by the NCAA Tournament Selection Committee, the KenPom.com site ranks Cornell No. 258 in the nation, while the Sagarin Rankings (USA Today) have Cornell at No. 249 Both sites are predominantly used by fans and the media.

USC head coach Kevin O'Neill was fired. I guess we'll see whether your hints about Jacobs had any basis in fact.

Has Bunce been redshirted yet?

You don't have to wait. Already news out there in public realm that the USC recruits are not firmly committed. They will only stay at USC if current assistant coaches remain there. And we all know that new coaches tend to bring in entirely new staffs, especially at a messed up situation like USC. Not expecting any of those kids to stay as Trojans. And I predicted this would happen 10 weeks ago and it should not have been a surprise to anyone.

Yeah, CBB did hint at this. But who cares unless JuJu commits to Cornell.

The Cornell Basketball Blog said...

Never said he would commit. Just said in November the story is not finished. And clearly, it is not.

Anonymous said...

So what that means is...nothing, and we've still got a 1 person class in mid January.

Jacobs had interest from high majors like Texas before he recruited. If he decides to decommit, he'll have plenty of interest. He's already turned down Cornell twice; i'm hopeful but skeptical he'd come to Ithaca.

Jacobs' decision came down to Cornell and USC. Period.

Julian had zero interest in Arizona State, Tennessee, Auburn, Texas and many others that made offers late in the process.

The only two official visits he made were to Cornell and USC. He had no desire to wait until the spring. He declined visits to a host of SEC and Pac 12 schools.

He loved Cornell and it was a gut wrenching decision for him. First he visited USC, then he visited Cornell, both in September and it then took him 6 long weeks to decide between the two schools. Cornell was close, very close. Many close to Julian said he was going to commit to Cornell.

In the end, Julian took a risk. He chose USC, a staff he did not know as well as Cornell's. He also knew O'Neil's job was very insecure. But USC's athletic facilities may be the VERY BEST in the United States. It is literally NBA/NFL quality.

He had some external pressure as well and ultimately chose USC. The reality is, given his personal background (and his style of play), Cornell was a perfect fit for him.

This may take a while to iron out. First, USC needs to hire a coach. Then the USC recruits can decide what they want.

Sounds like most of the USC recruits are banding together and remain committed to the program, led by Kahlil Dukes.

The Cornell Basketball Blog said...

Not the case at all.

Anonymous said...

What's that based on? The available public information (based in part on Dukes's public statements) suggests otherwise, depending on what happens with Cantu.

The Cornell Basketball Blog said...

I can tell you definitively that the USC recruits have not made a decision to stay at USC.

They may stay. But they are not committed to staying. They are letting the coaching search play out, which they should.

My hunch is that USC hires a new coach and the new coach brings in a new staff and most if not the entire class bolts.

This is the way it usually happens.
