News and Notes: Tuesday Edition

Above, a Date in Cornell Basketball History. Images from the Cornell-Dartmouth series from the 50s, 60s, 70s and 80s along with the cover of a 1904 issue of the Cornell Daily Sun previewing a Cornell-Dartmouth game. Below, news and notes for Tuesday...

  • Cornell is expected to announce some additional roster changes during the next week or so.
  • We hear that after a minor preseason injury, Braxston Bunce is expected to possibly return to practice as soon as this weekend.
  • Drexel Athletic Director Eric Zillmer told the Daily Pennsylvanian that he believes Penn should consider playing at Drexel's DAC more often.  “It is a quirky, boutique-like arena. Because of its intimacy the fans are part of the game.  There have been some great men’s and women’s teams that have visited the DAC including Florida, Saint Joseph’s, Utah, UMass, N.C. State, VCU, Creighton, Princeton and Cornell among many others. The DAC is not the Palestra, but in my opinion you won’t find a more intimate setting for college basketball in the nation.”
  • Hoops Report ranks Purdue very highly and writes, "The top two [starting forward]] candidates though are Errick Peck, a transfer from Cornell, and senior Travis Carroll. Carroll's minutes decreased, but he's played three seasons with Purdue and know their system. This could be his season to finally contribute to the team. Errick Peck averaged 24.3MPG for Cornell last season, but only averaged 9.7PPG and 4.8RPG. He finished strong, scoring in double-figures in the final four games and playing over 30 minutes in each of those games. This may be the weak area for Painter this upcoming season, but that all depends on who he chooses. Peck looks to have the advantage, but this is Carroll's last chance."

Is homecoming a big recruiting event this year, as in past years? Or was Labor Day the big weekend?

This is an important month for Cornell, when a large number of kids pick schools. We could really, really use a top shelf point guard and a slasher/scorer.

Homecoming won't be as big this year like it was last year when we had Julian Jacobs on campus.

We had our biggest weekend over Labor Day. But we have other key visitors coming in the next few weeks.

We still want to add 2 more kids-- preferably mid major level guys.

What do you mean "preferably mid major level guys"? Wouldn't we want to aim higher, like a kid with BCS offers? What happened the the highest rated kid of the Courtney era?

There is a kid we had on campus who is among the best players in the country. He came over Labor Day. He is waiting to see what his options are... so, no expectation he will commit early, anywhere. Another uber-athlete with SEC, Big 12 offers.
